81. Quinault Day Hikes

A good place to begin your exploration is the Quinault Rain Forest Ranger Station on the north shore of the lake and open part time in summer as staffing allows.  There are two excellent interconnected self-guided nature trails that leave from the ranger station.  Hike the short 1.3 mile loop to the old Kestner homestead and the .5 mile Maple Glade Loop trail that winds through groves of big leaf maples covered in hanging mosses.  There are also short loop trails and longer more strenuous trails on the south side of Lake Quinault in Olympic National Forest.  Stop by the Olympic National Forest and Park Information Station on the South Shore Road for maps and other information.
